Causes of Asthma
The following are some of the main factors that can trigger an asthma attack.
1. Allergens like dust, pollens, dust mites, animal dander and any other thing that a person is sensitive to.
2. Viral infections
3. Strenuous exercise
4. Stress
5. Anxiety
The above factors can force the immune system of the body to release substances like histamine and leukotrienes that result in contraction of the muscles in the airways of the lungs. Excess mucus is released and suddenly the white blood cells rush bronchi. This causes the tissues lining the airways to become swollen and inflamed causing constriction of the bronchi. This obstruction in the bronchi caused by mucus is called bronchoconstriction and makes breathing difficult.
Some plants like Parthenium are toxic in nature and can trigger asthma in some people. Cities that have a lot of parthenium plants growing in and around it may have a large population suffering from asthma symptoms.
