1. Constant feeling of sadness
2. Hopelessness - you would often find a depressed person lost in her ownself, often with thoughts that depress her further.
3. Anxiety - Depression brings in anxiety that something bad would happen. Patients constantly fear of a natural disaster or some kind of an accident happening to them or their loved ones.
4. Irritability - any conversation may make this person angry showing that he or she is not interested in whatever you would like to discuss.
5. Loss of interest in all activities, including sex.
6. Loss of appetite - a depressed person does not like to eat. He or she may sit at the table but would eat slow while showing no interest in the food.
7. Loss of weight
8. Tiredness or fatigue - Improper eating habits that develop from depression, besides the lack of sleep and constant anxiety makes the person feel tired all the time.
9. Suicidal thoughts. In extreme cases, and sometimes after the treatment of depression has started, the patient develops thoughts to harm his or her own self. The person may talk about ending life with someone in the family. If such a conversation is observed, extra observation is needed to keep the patient safe.
10. Prefers to be left alone. A depressed person does not like to converse. It becomes harder with time to motivate the person to get medical help as the patient thinks there is nothing wrong with him and the anger and frustration that he has against everyone is completely justified.
