Mercury Poisoning Is The Most Risky for Who?

The mercury that gets ingested by eating fish, accumulates in the body at a slow pace. Its impacts are not known right away. However, when methyl mercury is ingested by pregnant mothers, the fetus are at the most severe risk. The development of the fetus can get impacted resulting in autism or other abnormalities. Slow development in breast feeding babies is also common when mothers have been exposed to methyl mercury. Therefore, the younger a child, he/she is more at risk of mercury poisoning.

The grown up adults are not found to be at a severe risk, but any long term impacts cannot be ruled out. Ingestion of organic mercury can cause gastroenteritis in grown ups too. Vomiting and excess oral secretions are immediate symptoms of metallic mercury poisoning.
