Staying Healthy During A Bad Economy

It is sad that people tend to put off health issues, as far as they can, during tough economic times. They need ingaddress more pressing matters as keeping a roof on their heads or keeping feeding the family than to pay for an annual health checkup.

 

Well, the people are not to blame for this behavior during this economic crisis. Falling sick can have an impact on the daily wages earned.

 

Let us see what one can do to Wade through these troubled waters of bad economy, loss of jobs and additional stress from all of this.

 

  • Keep Low. It is okay to avoid playing extreme sports, if you can still have the fun from something that gives you exercise but helps avoiding unnecessary risks.

 

  • Prevent exposure to environments where one might catch sickness like a flu. If you need to take a stroll, choosing a park over a crowded mall might be a good idea.

 

  • Know the existing health problems if any for each of the family members. If you or one of them needs continuous health care, plan to address that than postponing and making that family member's condition worse.

 

  • Go only to the health care providers who are covered by your medical insurance.

 

  • Shop around for health care providers that are covered and take the least co-payment.

 

  • File insurance claims as soon as possible so that you do not forget about them.

 

  • Keep exercising. Make the kids exercise too.

 

  • Ask the pharmacy to give you the generic prescribed medication that is much cheaper than and as effective as the branded ones.

 

  • If the doctor prescribes a costly procedure or scan it might be a good idea to seek a second opinion. Sometimes the doctors prescribe all tests to be a hundred percent sure of a medical condition. More experienced doctors may confirm or rule out a condition right away with no or much less number of tests performed.

 

  • Follow the safety rules. There is no point in flaunting disobedience and hurting ones own self or others.

 

  • Try alternate methods like acupressure that can performed at home with no cost and sometimes these methods are very effective in mitigating pain or illness.

 

  • Keep a positive and cheerful countenance which would help keep of stress and depression and other maladies that follow them. Having fun with kids boosts one's own mood and keeps the kids laughing which is so important to keep the sickness at bay.

 

Most of the above tips apply even when the economy is good!
